About the Writer

Mary Chang is an award-winning short story fiction writer, published memoir article writer, freelance writer and blogger.

She lives with her lifetime partner on the North Shore in BC with their quiet, creative, curious son. When she’s not writing stories or creating community-driven word art projects on her blog, she makes time for personal fitness challenges, adventures with her son and exploring the West Coast with family and friends.

Her writing has been published in Medium (in various publications), HerStry, Teacher Magazine, Westcoast Families Magazine, Elephant Journal, North Shore News, Vancouver Courier, Richmond News, Richmond Review, Write On and Six-Word Memoirs on Love & Heartbreak. She also wrote print ads for the Georgia Straight Newspaper and radio commercials for Z95.3FM/650 CISL.

Chang has a background in Early Childhood Education and supports public education. Formerly, she worked in the radio, newspaper and TV industries in the advertising field, where she either provided administrative support, wrote and sold print ads, wrote and voiced radio commercials and talked on-air in radio about weekly community events.

Her stories inspired by exercise, laughter, and authentic people. She writes about health, parenting, community, writing, life lessons, memoir, and humour. Life journey is about sparking your internal fire and finding your shine. She’s a lifelong “work in progress” striving towards becoming a better person, parent, and writer. Writing self-empowers her to share her voice and may inspire readers to create their own stories or reflect on their own life journey.
